so @coolchaosqueen asked for some headcanons abt stephen and amatis so lets do this !!! 

(this might be super inaccurate i dont remember any details lmao)

- so i believe stephen grew up in london so they first time he met amatis was when she and luke came over for a few weeks for some shadowhunter business (who cares why lmao) and she and stephen randomly got to talking and hanging out and she was so lovely but also incredibly sassy and he was like. woW MUm I AM iN LOVE!!! 

- anyway after they eventually moved to alicante he and amatis immediatly started hanging out again and he kissed her in the woods and he was rll gentle and so was she and everything was kinda slow and soft 

- he and luke were rll good friends though like hes the one who always stood up for him if anyone was being shitty to him and luke thought of him as his brother tbh 

- he loved just sitting like on the floor talking to amatis for ages and ages and ages and kissing her nose and lips and cheeks and drawing her shitty little drawings (she kept them) and they were. So in Love why does cassandra clare hate us

- over the years with the cirlce and stuff stephen started getting furstrated and angry and the only thing that rll kept him leveled was amatis. like after meetings with the circle he would come home super pissed off abt something but then amatis would be there waiting for him and they’d lay in bed and she’d talk to him abt absolutely nothing and the parts of himself that he had lost bc of valentine’s influence came back 

- then luke “died” and amatis was heartbroken and stephen was torn between valentine and her but he was already too much in love with the power he had been granted as valentine’s second in command and eventually he broke it off with her and he wouldn’t stop crying and he wasn’t rll sure what he was doing and why but if valentine said it was ok then it must be 

- he missed luke a lot and he wanted to try and find him and held amatis and beg her to forgive him but instead they just shared strained conversations where he said “with valentine’s help we’ll have a better world” instead of “i don’t want a world where i’m not with you” 

- as he saw the horror valentine was creating and immediately started doubting him and himself and all of his decisions 

- he started spending more and more time with amatis and she was rll confused because “what abt celine wht about valentine what about your cause” but he knew that his days were limited anyway bc he knew valentine could sense he was slowly turning against him

- in the end, he wrote two letters: one for his unborn son, and one for amatis 

- in amatis’ letter, the last words he had written were, “in the end, i should have been fighting for you”
